Its primary project includes Ovoot Tolgoi coal mine, which is located in southern Mongolia. The company produces coking, premium, and thermal coals, which it sells to customers in China. It also holds mineral exploration licences in Mongolia. The company was formerly known as SouthGobi Energy Resources Ltd. and changed its name to SouthGobi Resources Limited on May 11, 2010. SouthGobi Resources Limited was founded in 2002 and is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. SouthGobi Resources Limited is a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines Ltd.
