The company engages in reprocessing natural gas to extract and recover ethane and natural gas liquids; the operation of natural gas gathering lines and processing facilities with a network of approximately 6,600 kilometers of gathering lines; and in the delivery of natural gas to approximately 72,000 end-users in Alberta, Nova Scotia, and the Northwest Territories. It also provides energy consulting and supply management services, as well as involves in arranging gas and power supply for non-residential end-users; and operates a gas services business that buys natural gas from wholesale marketing companies and producers, and sells natural gas to other wholesale marketing companies, and commercial and industrial end-users in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Manitoba. In addition, the company engages in the conventional power generation in Alberta and renewable power generation in British Columbia. It operates a 353 megawatt (MWs) of coal-fired base-load capacity, and a 39 MW of gas-fired power peaking capacity in Alberta, as well as owns 25 percent interest in a 7-MW run-of-river hydroelectric generation facility in British Columbia. The company was formerly known as AltaGas Income Trust and changed its name in July, 2010. AltaGas Ltd. was founded in 1993 and is headquartered in Calgary, Canada. |
